The general data protection regulation is Europe’s new framework for data protection laws, and it replaces the previous data protection directive of 1995, on which current UK law is based upon.
Why was GDPR drafted at the first Place?
The two key factors behind the GDPR is firstly the EU wanted to give more control to the people over how their personal data is used and how to understand many companies like Facebook and Google swap access to people’s data for their services. They made sure how the strengthening data protection legislation and introducing stricter enforcement measures. Also, the EU hoped to improve trust in the emerging digital economy.
The other thing they made sure if they wanted to give businesses a more straightforward, clearer legal environment in which they can operate.
