Cyber Essentials scheme is a set of basic technical controls that have been produced by the UK Government to help the organizations for improving their defenses strategies against cyber attacks and demonstrate their commitment towards cybersecurity publicly. This scheme addresses the most common internet-based attacks by cyber extortionists. There are two types of certifications available for the Cyber Essentials Scheme.
- Cyber Essentials- it is a self-certification. Here you need to produce the answers to a questionnaire (with evidence), and then the application is marked by the certification bodies through an online portal.
- Cyber Essentials Plus- this involves an external vulnerability scan. In this one of the certification bodies visit your company to perform a test which is in line with the Cyber Essentials requirements.
